New Friend: Blueberries, Old Friend: Coffee

I never was fond of blueberries growing up. I think that when I would go to those "U-Pick" places with my mom I at the little green berries and possibly small branches instead of the ripe ones. I'm guessing that because I was convinced that blueberries were sour, nasty little things, unless you added 37 lbs of sugar.

Since we moved to a more rural side of McMinnville, I've been more inclined to shop at Winco because of it's close proximity, even though I verge on a panic attack from the crowds. I don't usually like shopping because I go into a time warp where everything is in slow motion which creates a fog and confusion in my brain which always lands me 8 hours later in a foreign parking lot with a killer headache. One thing that helped in a BIG way is that I learned from some weathered Winco veterans that if you go in the middle of the day, it's not as bad.

So.... finally, to my point. I now can meander in slow motion through the store and observe everything that I want without my heels getting hammered with a shopping buggy. This has made my shopping experience more enjoyable AND more effective. I now can stroll through the produce area and actually buy things. I kept passing the California blueberries and glaring at them, because they were on sale and looked good, but I knew that they would taste nasty. Finally, I gave in and bought them. More as a means of getting some antioxidants than to fill my belly with tastiness. I washed and ate a few for breakfast the next morning and was so surprised. I now seem to have an insatiable appetite for fresh berries with my coffee every morning.

Strange mix, you say? maybe... probably... definitely.

Blueberries = delicious!

I used to go to the U Pick places when I would visit my grandparents in South Carolina....such sweet memories I have from those trips. We would definitely eat more than we took home. OOPS!

ps: I can't even function in a crowded store...my mind shuts down and I want to run for the door.

soon we can all have huckleberries and coffee for breakfast (they're Quackbert's favorite)

Often John goes grocery shopping to spare me the crowds. I tend to wander aimlessly, and then get in a panic and leave without things that I had written on my list.
