I have been loving the farmers market here in Mcminnville. It is a half-day occurrence every
Thursday downtown. The above items were the winnings of one of my recent trips. The two white items are Lions Mane Mushrooms, which I mainly bought because of their strong resemblance to Tribbles from Star Trek.

The green leafy things in the bag are Stinging Nettles, which live up to their name by giving you a bee-sting-like welt if you brush up against them. Some of my co-workers in Eugene were crazy about them and would go out and roll in them at night to get a natural high. Yes. Strange.
So I bought this bag of them at the Farmers Market because I had to make a quiche for potluck at church the next week. It was also perfect because the Nettles came with a quiche recipe. It turned out so well. I don't know if it was the 3lbs of butter in the crust, or the intoxicating nutrients from the Nettles, but everyone at church loved it. I still don't have the gumption to go Nettle hunting (or frolicking) myself, but the nettle recipe is now in my heavy rotation.

You're right--Lion's Mane mushrooms DO look like Tribbles. I'm jealous that you can buy mushrooms at your farmers' market. I rarely find them in Eugene.
It looks like you had to wear gloves to work with the stinging nettles--that's kind of crazy that you can eat something that you can't touch! Then again, it's usually recommended to wear gloves when handling hot peppers, too. So maybe it's not so weird.
Those Eugenians! They're so creative!
